Installation Procedure
In order to determine whether Spellex was
installed successfully, we provide a test document called
Speltest. This test document contains a sample list
of words that are included in the Spellex enhanced spell checking
dictionary. The Speltest list contains words misspelled on
purpose to verify that the speller gives correct suggestions.
If the spell checker stops on the marked words and gives correct
suggestions, then Spellex was installed successfully. In Windows
you can access the Speltest document from the installation disk or
by clicking on the Start button (located at the lower left
corner of the screen) and then choosing Programs>Spellex>Speltest.
If you are using Spellex on a Mac, you can access the document
from the installation disk or by looking in the same location
as your new dictionary file.
If you have Works 4.5 or earlier, these steps are not necessary.
- When the installation is complete, start MS Works.
- From the Main Menu Bar, select Tools then Options.
- Change the Choose Dictionary option from English (United
States) to English (United States), Complete.
- Click OK.
- Close MS Works and reopen it to activate the new Spellex speller.
We have used WordPerfect 9.0 for the example
although the steps are relatively the same for all versions.
- Open WP 9.0 and start the spell checker.
- You will receive a message that says "Spell check completed. Close Spell Checker?" choose NO.
- Click the OPTIONS button and select MAIN WORD LISTS, the Main Word Lists dialog box will appear.
- In the box you should see the WT9EN.MOR file attached.
- Click on the ADD LIST button and look for the file "Spwmedrx.lex".
- If the file is there, select it and click OPEN (If the
file is not there, skip to the next paragraph in your
document).
- You should now see the file attached underneath the WT9EN.MOR file.
- Click CLOSE and then CLOSE again.
- Close WordPerfect for approximately 4 or 5 seconds to give the program a chance to register the new file.
- You may now open WordPerfect and spell check the test document.
If you are unable to chain the dictionary with the steps listed,
please e-mail technical support
with the exact version of WordPerfect that you use and we
will tailor the instructions to that specific version.
This test document contains a
sample list of words that are included in the Spellex enhanced
spell checking dictionary. In this list, there are words
misspelled on purpose to verify that the speller gives
correct suggestions. If the spell checker stops on the marked words and gives
correct suggestions, then Spellex was installed successfully.
There are several possible reasons for this:
- The Word versions of our software require
that the spell checker be activated after installation. To
activate the Spellex spell checker, perform the following
steps:
- From your Word Main Menu Bar select Tools then Options.
- Click on the Spelling & Grammar tab.
- Verify that you have your "Speller
Type" option set to complete.
If the setting is not present at all in the Options box,
Spellex was not installed successfully. If it is set to
"Medical", you have another spell checker installed on your
computer; you should uninstall both this spell checker and
Spellex, and install Spellex again.
- Single User and 5 User versions of our
spell checkers for Microsoft Word and Microsoft Office must
be registered within 15 days of installation. After a period
of 15 days, the spell checker will deactivate itself. Please see "How do I register my product?" for more information.
- A common cause of this problem is having programs running
in the background during installation. Please note that programs
can "run in the background" even after you close their window.
Close all programs, restart your computer, and run the installation
program again.
- All Spellex software requires you that
you be logged in as Administrator in order to properly register
the spelling files. This is especially important on computers
running Windows NT, 2000, & XP as built in restrictions may
prevent your word processor from properly reading the enhanced
spelling files during the spell check procedure. The most
common scenario where you would not be the Administrator is
in an office setting where a person is in charge of the computers.
You may install Spellex on the number of
computers that you have licensed. To purchase additional licenses
or to verify the number of licenses you have, please contact customer service. If you are switching to a new computer from an older one, please choose one of the options below:
For products that require registration:
Uninstall Spellex from the old computer and make a note of
the Removal Code given to you at the end of the procedure.
You can install and use Spellex for a period of 15 days before
you must reregister the product. To reregister the product
and receive a new License Key, please e-mail
us with your Serial Number, Registration Code, and Removal
Code.
For products that do not require
registration: Uninstall Spellex from the old computer.
During this process, you may be prompted to insert your installation
disk. Once the product has been uninstalled, you may install
it on a different computer.
Spell-X-Plus, Spell-X-VetPlus, and Spell-X-BioPlus updates are cumulative. If you reinstall Spellex, you only need to install the most recent update.
Registration
Single User through 5 User versions of
our spell checkers for Microsoft Word and Microsoft Office
must be registered within 15 days of installation. If you
are trying to install Spellex on a different computer than
was originally registered, please see "What
must I do to install Spellex on a different computer?".
- Locate your Registration
Code and Serial
Number. (Please note that some people will not receive
a Serial Number).
- a) For Single User versions: If you found your Serial
Number you may register here.
If you did not find a Serial Number you may register here.
b) If you would like to register multiple users, click
here.
- Once you receive your license key, enter it in the screen
where you found your Registration Code.
If you need further assistance, please e-mail
technical support.
There are several possible reasons for this message:
- If you entered an incorrect Registration Code during registration,
an invalid License Key will be generated. Please e-mail technical
support with your Registration Code and Serial Number
for assistance.
Operation
This error has been identified and fixed
in the latest versions of Spellex's software. Allowing Vista to
close this program will not interfere with the correct operation
of the Spellex spell checker. To receive the latest version
of your Spellex software, please contact Customer
Support
What you are seeing is a feature of Microsoft
Word's spelling engine. Words are split into two separate
words by the speller when the term is not found in the dictionary.
This is a feature of Word and will happen whether or not Spellex
is installed. To see this, go to a computer that does not
have Spellex and type "watercrest" (without the quotes) in
Microsoft Word. You should get the correct "watercress", but
it should also offer "water" and "crest" as options. The word
"watercrest" is not in the dictionary so the speller offers
the correct "watercress", but also offers "water" and "crest"
thinking that you may have mistakenly left out a space.
No. Words that you add to your dictionary
are kept in a separate dictionary file. Spellex does
not modify this file in any way. Words that you have
added will not be lost.
Spellex uses the most advanced spelling engine algorithms
available. Because of the complexity of the English language,
there is no set number of letters that you can misspell a
word by. It depends on the actual phonetics of each particular
word. It is a significant improvement over the default Microsoft
or WordPerfect spelling engine.
This is a known issue with certain computer system settings and can be easily corrected. Please follow the instructions below:
- Right click on the Start button on the lower left corner of your screen.
- Select Explore
- Navigate to the following path (where C is your hard drive) C:\Program Files\Microsoft
Office\Office\STARTUP
- Delete the file "Spellex.dot"
- Reboot your computer
You should no longer receive the "Compile error in hidden module: This document" message when you open or close Microsoft Word. You may notice that your speller box does not display the Spellex Logo anymore. This does not affect the functionality of the speller. The "Spellex.dot" file is only used to display the logo and not to offer spelling suggestions.
If you get the "Assertion
Failed!" error message please download the Spellex for
MS Word maintenance release 123.456.789.
Please run the fix so that the "Mssp3spx.DLL" file is extracted
in the "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\PROOF"
folder.
